Affordable housing developers in Austin that participate in either the Rental Housing Development Assistance Program (RHDA) or Home Ownership Development Assistance (HODA, a.k.a., Acquisition and Development) are invited to a stakeholders meeting to learn about newly revised application and review processes.
The meeting is hosted by the City of Austin’s Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Department (NHCD) and is set for 9 a.m. on Monday, December 17, in the Street-Jones Building, 1000 East 11th Street, Room 400A.
Both programs are important for affordable housing in Austin. The RHDA program expands the construction of affordable rental housing for low-income households and increases the availability of permanent supportive housing for persons experiencing homelessness or with special needs, while the HODA program funds private and nonprofit developers, including Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs), to acquire, rehabilitate, and construct affordable ownership housing for low- to moderate-income homebuyers.
This meeting is the culmination of a review process begun in January 2018, when City staff hosted area developers to solicit suggestions on improving the application and review processes. In subsequent months, NHCD staff held individual listening sessions with individual organizations and stakeholders to expand upon that input. As a result, the department has completely reengineered the application process and established a standardized review procedure.
